Field trips can be great experiences for youth to learn project content and life skills. Field trips also contribute to the experiential learning philosophy of 4-H. This document includes some suggestions to make a field trip fun, safe, and educational. Develop a Plan for 4-H Project Learning Activities.

Bricks 4 Kidz LEGO Workshops and Field Trips

Bricks 4 Kidz Knoxville programs provide opportunities for children to

  • awaken curiosity and inquiry
  • stimulate observation and exploration skills
  • enrich and enhance school curriculum
  • link STEM concepts learned in school to the larger world

A Bricks 4 Kidz workshop or field trip takes learning out of the pages of the textbook and into an imaginative, 3-dimensional, hands-on learning experience! Use the LEGO® bricks your students already know and love to get them excited about learning. A Bricks 4 Kidz workshop or field trip is a fun-filled, engaging experience that kids will be talking about long after the fun has ended.

  • What? We will bring 6-8 STEAM-related LEGO activities that each take a classroom 10-12 minutes to complete. Each station will include a LEGO Building activity that represents one or more aspect of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or Math. Some activities in the past have included, but are not limited to: LEGO Car station & ramp, timed tower-building, mechanical or motorized model, invent-an-insect with LEGO pieces, build a Brick-Tack-Toe board, LEGO Spin Art, etc.
  • Standards? STEAM Carnival workshops are not specifically designed to ensure state standards and assessment, but can be reviewed to tie standards in.

Hello everyone! Are you ready for a field trip that takes a huge step back in time?

Today we’re going to visit a Prehistoric Paradise! Prehistory, meaning before history, is the span of time before recorded history or the invention of writing systems. There is not much known about prehistoric times but what we do know has been found as drawings on cave walls.

Through those cave drawings we learned about prehistoric animals like Sabertooth Tigers, Pterodactyls, and Woolly Mammoths, just to name a few! There were also Dinosaurs!

Did you know that there are about 700 named species of dinosaur? Paleontologists – those are scientists who study fossils and dinosaur bones – believe that there are hundreds more types of dinosaurs still waiting to be discovered!

Here’s some fun facts about dinosaurs: the longest dinosaur is the Seismosaurus which was about as long as 5 school buses. The smallest is the Compsognathus (also known as “Compys”) were just larger than chickens. The tallest is the Sauroposeidon which was about as tall as a building with six floors. The heaviest is the Brachiosaurus which was about as heavy as 17 African elephants. Wow!

Prehistoric times are also typically divided into three separate eras based on the tools and weapons that man used: the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age.

Hey, speaking of Stone Age, here is a code for your very own Stone Age Outfit souvenir to take home with you from this very special trip back in time! You can enter this code into the Code Shop.

I hope you enjoyed your trip to this Prehistoric Paradise! We’ll see you again in a few days for our next field trip. And remember – you will be tested on what you learned on our field trips so pay attention!

You can find Prehistoric Paradise Wallpaper and Flooring and many more prehistoric items at Ganz eStore!
